ABOUT LORNE
Master of Arts in English, University of Toronto
Bachelor of Arts in Honours English Language and Literature, University of Western Ontario
Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communications, Seneca College
Canadian Securities Course, Canadian Securities Institute
Lorne studied accounting, business, economics, and math before majoring in English. I suppose his “editing career” started (unofficially) in university, when friends would ask him to read their essays, graduate school applications, and cover letters. Friends appreciated his blunt advice, even when it wasn’t always what they wanted to hear.
His English professors at Western and U of T were old-school sticklers for grammar and clear writing in a time before auto-correct software and all the AI tools we take for granted today. They insisted on impeccable grammar and a clear, concise, comprehensible style, just as Lorne does today.
He enjoys an adjunct career in teaching English as a second language that has taken him all over the world. In his editing work, he combines a respect for the English language with his frank, no-nonsense advice from fields as diverse as language education, business administration, and public relations. When he’s not editing or teaching, Lorne enjoys traveling, hiking, and sailing.
